There are funds available to eliminate the consequences of this year's flood.
98.87 million PLN - these are the costs of damage caused by the flood in May and June of 2010, within the area of the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław (RZGW). Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław has already applied to get 86% of that amount, namely almost 85 million PLN, which will be spent by the end of 2010. This year we plan to spend approximately 30 million PLN.
- Availability of funds is not the problem, but the problem is to quickly and reasonably spend the money - said Leszek Karwowski, Chairman of the National Board of Water Management, during the press briefing meeting. The briefing was held on 6 August 2010, in the office of the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław. The meeting was also attended by Marek Mielczarek, Chairman of the Voivodeship Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management, and the newly appointed Director of the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław, Mr. Witold Sumisławski.
- The Fund assigned 18 million PLN to settle the losses caused by this year's flood - says Marek Mielczarek. The Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław may acquire funds from the Voivodeship Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management to carry out necessary replacement and protection works, which need to be utilised no later than by the end of this year.
- Since there isn't a lot of time left to the end of the year, we hope that all procedures will be efficiently completed and we shall be able to instantaneously commence our works - added Witold Sumisławski.
- The Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław applied for funds to eliminate flood losses, to the Minister of Interior and Administration, the National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management and the Voivodeship Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management in Wrocław.

Flood losses
Estimated value of works related to elimination of losses incurred as a result of flood in May and June 2010 within the assets of the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław amounts to 98.87 million PLN, including:
- Dolnośląskie Voivodeship - 61.2 million PLN,
- Opolskie Voivodeship - 27.62 million PLN,
- Lubuskie Voivodeship - 9.25 million PLN,
- Śląskie Voivodeship - 0.8 million PLN.
The nature of the losses is diverse and relates, amongst others, to: damages in embankments, erosion processes, shallowing (silting) of the Odra river bed, hold-ups in water course beds, distractions of retailing walls, damages of hydrotechnical objects (installations: automatic systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems on water stages of the Odra River), buildings and access roads, damage of embankments (including dykes), damages to tasks under process.
Funds acquired and planned to be acquired to eliminate flood losses
- Statutory funds of the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław - 200,000 PLN,
- First instalment from funds allocated by the Ministry of Interior and Administration (specific budgetary allowance) - 4.95 million PLN, of which approximately 800,000 was spent before 31 July.
The Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław also commenced its attempts to acquire funds for necessary replacement and protection works, from the below mentioned sources:
- Second instalment of the specific budgetary allowance of the Ministry of Interior and Administration - 20.12 million PLN,
- National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management - 56.27 million PLN,
- Voivodeship Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Management - 3.23 million PLN (specific financial engineering to be agreed upon after official submission of the project for realisation).
Total amount of expenses planned to eliminate damages resulting from this year's flood, and to liquidate threats for human life and property, within the area administered by the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław, will amount to approximately 85 million PON.
List of important flood protection investments, carried out by the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław:
- Modernisation of the Nysa Water Reservoir - STAGE 1 - estimated cost of the investment - 437.60 million PLN,
- Improvement of Flood Protection of Lewin Brzeski town on the Nysa Kłodzka River - estimated cost of the investment - 120.71 million PLN,
- Modernisation of the Wrocław Water System - estimated cost of the investment - 659.60 million PLN,
- Modernisation of 5 weirs from sector-type to flap-type - 100 million PLN,
- Reconstruction of Chróścice Weir - 90 million PLN.
Important flood protection investments carried out after the "Great Flood of the Millennium" in 1997:
- Modernisation of the Opole Water System,
- Flood protection of the city of Kędzirzyn Koźle,
- Construction of water reservoirs Sosnówka, Kozielno and Topola,
- Reconstruction and modernisation of weirs Lipki, Bartoszowice i Opatowice,
- Regulation and reconstruction of embankment and bottom reinforcements in hundreds of kilometres of water courses: rivers and streams.
Important investments planned to be realised by the Regional Board of Water Management in Wrocław:
- Flood protection of the Kłodzko Valley, with particular emphasis on the city of Kłodzko (including construction of 4 dry reservoirs),
- Flood protection of the village of Skorogoszcz,
- Construction of a dry reservoir Kosztrzyca,
- Reconstruction of weirs: Ujście Nysy and Psie Pole,
- Modernisation of the Nysa Water Reservoir - STAGE 2,
- Continuation of regulation and reconstruction of embankment and bottom reinforcements in rivers and streams
